A recent study conducted confirms that dining late could make one prone to plenty of health issues including gaining weight, and issues related to cholesterol, liver, diabetes, and other health conditions.
Similar studies were conducted prior to this study including the study by Satchin Panda. He experimented with mice feeding a high-fat diet to genetically identical mice leading to brilliant findings.
The Mouse Experiment
Satchin Panda in his study fed the mice a high-fat diet. Half of the mice ate their food within eight hours during the night, while the others ate the food at any time they wanted. The study led to the result, that the mice eating food within eight nocturnal hours, stayed healthy as their weight, blood sugar, and cholesterol remained normal. However, the mice who ate as per their desire developed health disorders like obesity, liver disease, and other conditions.
Panda later put the mice with disorders on the eight-hour feeding schedule of the same diet. Though the food consumed was the same, the mice started getting better, confirming the time between food matters.
The Results
The new research in the extension of this project; has explained that longer fasting hours gave the body more time to make repairs, which is its continuous process. However, these repairs happen at a very low rate as the body is also kept busy with other tasks including processing meals, putting nutrients to work in cells, and much more.
When one stops eating for a long period of time, the body uses the opportunity to take a break from heavy work and cells use the time to supercharge their repairs. But the process starts after the body is sure that the intake of food has completely stopped which usually is six hours after the consumption of the last calorie.
Experts Opinion
It has always been a theory that eating dinner like a pauper is healthy, however, new research has added to prove that the time of dinner matters as well. The period between dinner and breakfast should be of 10- 12 hours. This time frame would provide the body with a window of 4-6 hours for charging itself and better health. This could additionally help in losing weight and low cholesterol.
Diet, Nutrition, and Health as factors of importance are continuing to grow in the market with new emerging studies to guide people across the globe. This progress and awareness are surely leading the world toward a better future.
