As a part of its pilot project for 15 days, Flipkart will deploy drones for the transportation of medicine parcels in very less time.
Collaborating with Skye Air Mobility, the e-commerce giant Flipkart’s healthcare arm, Flipkart Health has successfully piloted a delivery project of delivering approximately 20 to 30 packets together adding up to 3 kgs per delivery to Flipkart’s partnering pharmacies in Kolkata.
Skye Air CEO, Ankit Kumar said that the drones in this pilot project easily covered an aerial distance of 104 km which is the world’s longest ever beyond visual line of sight (BVLoS) happens to be longer than 100kms delivery route with remote landing covered by a drone.
This route from Flipkart hub in the Medinipur area from Baruipur to Healthbuddy Matangini (pharmacy) counts to 185kms taking 5 hours by road. However, supported by the drone delivery, Flipkart could manage to deliver within 1 hour flat. Ankit Kumar added that the drone delivery would reduce the logistic cost by around 20 to 30 percent.
