This integration led to achieving the following goals:

  1. Geothermal Heating System: The hospital’s largest underground geothermal field for a Canadian healthcare facility will provide 100% ground-source geothermal heating and cooling. This solution significantly reduces energy consumption, operating costs, and carbon emissions over the hospital’s lifespan.
  2. Energy Efficiency: The project team conducted in-depth analyses and cost evaluations to ensure that the hospital’s geothermal system was the most energy-efficient and cost-effective choice. The geo-exchange system was found to have substantial energy savings and lower operational costs compared to traditional fossil fuel-based heating systems.
  3. Visual and Acoustic Impact Reduction: By eliminating the need for roof-mounted cooling towers, the hospital’s geothermal system reduces visual and acoustic impacts, creating a more aesthetically pleasing and quieter environment for occupants and the surrounding community.
  4. Water Conservation: The absence of cooling towers in the geothermal system allows the hospital to save up to two million gallons of water annually, contributing to conservation efforts.
